湖北文理学院外国语学院

外国语学院秉承“明德修身 融通中外”的院训,高质量为社会培养人才!

外国语学院现设有英语、日语两个本科专业和一个大学英语教学部,有英、日、法、德、俄、韩等六种语言教学。学院目前在校学生有1100人,在编教职工85人。其中专任教师71人,高级职称人27,博士15人,常年聘有美、英、日等国外籍教师3-4人。其中省级教学标兵1名;校级教学标兵6名,获得优秀青年教师竞赛一等奖4人次。近年来,多名教师曾先后出访美、英、澳、加、日、德、新等国攻读学位、进修、访学或进行学术交流活动,大部分教师有出国学习、进修经历,实现了教师国际化。

学院较早获得改革示范点——省级实验教学中心“英语语言学习中心”,教学硬件、软件获得较好的建设。现有省级语言学习示范中心1个、设备先进的语音室14个、高配置同声传译实训室1间、商务实训室1间、数字录音室1间、英语调频台2个、专业资料室1间,可提供数字录音、课件播放、实践实训等多媒体教学辅助服务和在线自主学习服务。较好地服务了教师的在线教学及学生的自主学习。

学院坚持“教学中心、科研并进、特色并举”的发展理念,实施多方向,多维度发展。围绕“具有国际视野、中国情怀、隆中精神、卧龙智慧”的外语人才培养目标,探索“外语+X”和“X+外语”国际化、应用型复合型人才培育模式,建立了“专业—学业—就业”多维发展渠道,搭建了“学习—实习—实践”立体化学科平台。

坚持开放办学。学院先后与60多所中学、企业单位、政府机关部门建立了应用型人才协同培养基地,并与美国、日本、英国等多所境外高校建立了人才培养合作关系。建立了海外实习基地,尤其与日本的大和教育学院取得较好的合作,每年都有大量的学生实现了海外学习、海外就业。学院正在加快国际化建设进程。

外国语学院的学生出国率、就业率、考研率名列前茅。日语专业学生就业率连续据全校之首,实现了100%毕业即就业。英语专业出国交流、实习实践、考取国外研究生为主要发展方向。考研率也达到高位水平。

专业介绍

英语专业(四年,授予文学学士学位)

培养目标:本专业培养适合我国社会主义市场经济发展、知识面广、适应力强、具有扎实的英语语言基础、较强的英语语言应用能力、较宽的人文学科知识和一定的科技知识、并具有初步的科研能力、良好的道德心理与身体素质、能够从事中等院校教育、外贸、外事、翻译、科研、文化等相关工作的应用型高级英语专门人才。

专业方向:英语专业结合地方经济和社会发展的需求,以英语教育、商务英语、翻译等三大模块为应用型人才培养方向,按照“英语+专业方向”的培养模式,逐步形成了“英语+教师教育”、“英语+翻译”、“英语+电商”等三个专业方向。教师教育方向重在加强英语教育理论培养和教师技能训练,翻译方向重在加强翻译理论培养和翻译技能训练,商务方向重在强化电子商务理论教学和实操实训。

主要课程:英语语音、英语口语、英语听力、英语阅读、英语写作、英语语法、综合英语、高级英语、英汉口/笔译、翻译理论与实践、英语语言学、英美文学、商务英语、英语学科教学论、交替传译、同声传译、第二外语(法语、日语、德语、韩语)等课程。

英语专业是我校所有专业中第一志愿报考率最高的专业。

日语专业(四年,授予文学学士学位)

培养目标:本专业秉承“育人为本,德育为先”的教育理念,培养具有扎实的日语语言基础知识和语言技能、日语能力达到N2级及以上,并能够服务于地方经济和社会发展,或从事高中日语教学、外事、对日文化交流、经贸等领域工作的德才兼备、具有较强的自主学习能力和跨文化交际能力、具有国际化视野的日语专业人才。

专业方向:日语专业以日语语言文学、商务日语两大模块为应用型人才培养的主要方向。为更好地服务地方经济文化发展,日语专业目前正在申办“日语+X”双学位的复合应用型人才试点班。

主要课程:初级日语、中级日语、日语视听、日语会话、日语阅读、日语写作、日汉翻译、日语语言学导论、商务日语、日本文学史、日本文化。

日语专业是我校所有专业中就业率最高的专业。

大学英语(通识教育课程)

课程简介:《大学英语》是我校通识教育课程之一,面向我校文科、理科、工科等非英语专业班级开设,每年服务学生7000余名,为其英语学习、考试、竞赛、考研、出国、就业提供教学或辅导。

教学目标:帮助学生夯实英语语言基础,增强综合文化素养,提升学生的语言基本技能,培养学生的国际视野和中国情怀,使其具备较强的英语语言综合应用能力、跨文化交际能力、自主学习能力和批判性思维能力,在今后的学习、工作和社会交往中能够有效地运用英语进行交流,以更好地服务地方经济和社会发展。

主要课程:大学英语课程体系包括基础英语和拓展英语。其中,基础课程体系含八门核心课程,针对低年级普通专业本科生开设:大学英语I、大学英语II、大学英语III、大学英语IV;针对低年级艺术类普通本科生开设:大学英语(一)、大学英语(二)、大学英语(三)、大学英语(四)。拓展课程体系包括行业英语、外教口语、跨文化交际、研究生预科英语等,主要面向非英语专业高年级学生。同时,依托英语语言学习示范中心开设有配套的大学英语自主学习课程。

Hubei University of Arts and Science

Upholding the motto of ‘Illustrious Virtue, Self-cultivation and Integrating Cultures’, the School of Foreign Languages of Hubei University of Arts and Science is committed to cultivating high-quality talents that meet the needs of society.

The School has three teaching units: the Department of English, the Department of Japanese and the College English Division, offering courses in six languages, namely English, Japanese, French, German, Russian and Korean.Currently, it has a total of 1,100 students and 86 faculty members. Among them, 71members are full-time teachers, including27professors andassociate professors, and three or four foreign teachers from countries such as the US, the UK, and Japan. Additionally, 15 of the members hold doctorate degree. The faculty also include one Excellent Teacher of Hubei Province, six HBUAS Excellent Teachers, and four recipients of the first prize in the Teaching Competitions for Young Teachers.Recently, many teachers have eitherpursued degrees, undergone training, participated in visiting scholar programs or engaged in academic exchanges in foreign countries like the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Japan, Germany, and New Zealand, contributing to the internationalization of the teaching staff.

Ratified as a provincial demonstration site for reform, the School has established an English Language Learning Center, a provincial level experimental teaching center, and made great investments in both the hardware and software facilities. Now, it boasts one provincial demonstration center for English learning, 14 voice training rooms with advanced equipment, one simultaneous interpretation training lab, one business training lab, one digital recording studio, two English FM stations, and one reference room. The facilities provide multimedia teaching aids such as digital recording, courseware playback, practical training, and online independent learning services, which greatly support teachers’ instruction and students’ independent learning.

Guided by the philosophy of ‘focusing on teaching, prioritizing research, integrating local characteristics’, the school has implemented a multi-directional and multi-dimensional approach to its development. To cultivate interdisciplinary talents with a global vision while keeping the country in mind and equip them with Longzhong spirit and Wolong wisdom, the school has adopted the “foreign language + X” and “X + foreign language” strategy that combines foreign language studies with other disciplines, established a multi-dimensional pathway for students that encompasses study, research, and career development, and created a three-dimensional platform that connects learning with practical experience and internship.

Sticking to the principle of openness, the school has set up collaborative training programs with over 60 entities, including secondary schools, corporations, and government departments, and forged partnerships with several overseas colleges and universities in countries including the US, Japan, and the UK. It has also established overseas internship bases, particularly with Daiwa Academy of Japanese Language (Japan), fostering a fruitful collaboration. Annually, a substantial number of students have the opportunity to pursue overseas studies and employment. The school is actively accelerating its efforts in internationalization.

The graduates of the School consistently achieve remarkable outcomes in terms of employment and pursuing further education both within China and abroad. Graduates of the Department of Japanese boast the highest employment rate in the University, with 100% of graduates securing employment upon graduation.Graduates of the Department of English have the options to participate in exchange programs, internships, and pursue further study abroad.The rate of English majors successfully passing graduate school entrance exams is also notably high.

Programs and Courses

The English Major (four years, Bachelor of Arts)

Objectives

This programaims to lay a solid foundation for students’ language competence, enhance their abilities to apply English, enrich their knowledge in humanities andtechnical fields, improve a basic level of scientific research capability, and develop good moral and psychological qualities as well as physical fitness. Upon completion of the program, the students will be well-prepared to work in various fields, including secondary education, foreign trade, foreign affairs, translation, scientific research, culture, and other related fields.

About the Program

In accordance with the demands of local economic and social development, this program adopts the “English + professional direction” cultivation strategy and offers three specialized training modules: English education, business English, and translation. These modules have evolved into three professional directions: “English + Teacher Education”, “English + Translation”, and “English + E-commerce”, which combines English proficiency with specialized expertise. The “English + Teacher Education” direction emphasizes the development of theoretical knowledge in English education and teacher training skills. The “English + Translation” direction focuses on enhancing theoretical knowledge in translation studies and translation skills training. The “English + E-commerce” direction strengthens theoretical teaching and practical training in the field of e-commerce.

English Pronunciation, Spoken English, Viewing, Listening and Speaking, English Reading, English Writing, English Grammar, Comprehensive English, Advanced English, English-Chinese Translation/Interpretation, Translation Theory and Practice, English Linguistics, British and American Literature, Business English, English Language Teaching Methodology, Consecutive Interpretation, Simultaneous Interpretation, Second Foreign Language (French, Japanese, German, Korean), etc.

The English major, whichattracts a significant number of college entrance examination candidates, has anotably high first-choice application rate compared to all other majors offered by the HBUAS.

The Japanese Major (four years, Bachelor of Arts)

Objectives

Following the guideline ‘takingstudents’ cultivation as the essence, giving priority to moral education’, this program aims to nurture students into high-level talents with a solid foundation of knowledge and language competence (proficiency in Japanese language at N2 level or above), independent learning ability, cross-cultural communication ability, and an international vision. Graduates of the program will be qualified fora variety of Japanese-related work, such as teaching Japanese in high schools, engaging in foreign affairs, participating in Sino-Japan cultural communication, working in foreign trade, and other related fields.

About the Program

This programplaces a strong emphasis on training applied talents through two main modules: Japanese Language and Literature, and Business Japanese. In response to the needs of local economic and cultural development, a pilot dual-degree program of “Japanese + X” is in being prepared.

Main courses

Basic Japanese, Intermediate Japanese, Audio-visual Japanese, Japanese Conversation, Japanese Reading, Japanese Writing, Sino-Japanese Translation, Introduction to Japanese Linguistics, Business Japanese, Japanese Literature History, Japanese Culture, etc.

Graduates of the Department of Japanese have excellent employment, rankingthe top among all the majors at the HBUAS.

College English (general English courses for non-English

majors)

Introduction

College English is a series of coursesdesigned as part of the University’s general education program, specifically tailored for non-English major students across various disciplines, including liberal arts, science, and engineering. Each year, over 7,000 students take these courses, which provide valuable guidance and support for English language learning, exams, competitions, entrance exams for postgraduate schools, preparations for studying abroad and career development.

Objectives

The courses are designed to lay a solid foundation in English language learning, enhance students’ overall cultural literacy, improve their basic language skills, cultivate an international vision while keeping the country in mind, and nurture their English application ability, cross-cultural communication skills, independent learning abilities, and critical thinking skills. With these competencies, students can communicate effectively in English throughout their future academic, professional, and social pursuits, contributing to local economic and social development.

Main courses

The College English course system consists of two modules: basic courses and extended courses. The basic courses comprise a total of eight courses, four of which are designed for junior undergraduates pursuing general majors: College English I, College English II, College English III, and College English IV. The remaining four courses are tailored for junior undergraduates majoring in arts, denoted as College English (1), College English (2), College English (3), and College English (4).The extended courses include Industry English, Spoken English (taught by foreign teachers), Intercultural Communication, and Preparatory English Course for Postgraduate Study, etc., which are mainly for senior non-English majors.In addition, independent study courses, facilitated through the English Language Learning Center, are available to support students’ learning.
